Clozette: Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2015

2 weeks ago, on 11th April, Orchard Road was transformed into a runway for Samsung Fashion Steps Out (FSO) with a total of 176 models strutting down the iconic road for the annual fashion event, wearing the latest designs from 13 brands:

Aimer, Ashley Isham, Pleatation, Depression, FOX Kids, Francis Cheong, Germain, Mary Katrantzou, Moiselle, Max.Tan, Pauline.Ning, Paul, and Sean & Sheila!

It was my first time attending FSO and I've got to say that it's an interesting night. I even spotted a handful of my friends cat-walking down the runway, and the best part of it all was that I got the privilege to sit right up close to the whole fashion galore as an Ambassador of Clozette! It was even more enjoyable because I sat with Jerlene of MusicalHouse and we were having heaps of laugh throughout the whole thing, she was even super sweet to help me snap photos!

That being said, a heads up here~
All photos were taken with my iPhone, so do pardon me if the quality isn't as crisp!
And now, without further ado~
Here are the snapshots of the night:

Samsung Fashion Steps Out After Party

After the fashion show, it was time for more alcohol and mingling!
We also made use of the time and voucher in our goodie bag to get some nice treats!

Personally, I spent mine on sweets and tea!
Hahahaha~ What can I say...
I love my teas!

I would like to thank Jerlene for accompanying me and helping me out with all my OOTD photos, Clozette.co for blessing me with this opportunity to sit front row to catch this Fashion Feast and for loving me as their ambassador, and TheWYLDshop for their support as my fashion sponsor!

Until next time~
XOXO

Interview With: Gursheel Dhillon & Kara Bensley from theWYLDshop

This month, I sat down and interviewed two very empowered ladies who are no stranger to me, to find out more about their fashion and business sense.

Who are they?

They are none other than the Directors of theWYLDshop,
Gursheel Dhilon (On the left) and Kara Bensley (On the right)!

Tell me a little bit of yourself *grin* and theWYLDshop.

KB: I am a crazy Aussie Entrepreneur living in Singapore, running theWYLDshop with G! I have a hubby and 2 fur babies (a dog and a cat). My passions are interacting with people, having a good time and I am super lucky that I am able to combine both!

G: I'm definitely the left brains of theWYLDshop whereby I manage the boring part of the business which I absolutely love, considering my obsession with KPIs and ROIs (Kara's two most favourite words lol). theWYLDshop focuses on Australian high fashion given my business partner's background and we're just injecting some life to Singatown.

Hahaha! Online boutiques are such a rave nowadays, how does theWYLDshop differ from others?

G:
Being a start-up, I guess it works to our advantage that it's just the both of us steering the ship and we get to inject our personalities and heart as we're absolutely passionate about what we do.

KB: We are different because we only focus on injecting Aussie fashion in Southeast Asia. We also host trunk shows, where we bring our boutique to our customers and in the comfort and privacy of their own homes. It is a great way for women to shop with their girlfriends and spend time together.

G: And we also do fashion installations and pop-up events! You'll see us doing a pop-up over the weekend at Tanjong Beach Club as it's our fav getaway from the city so we're just integrating our lifestyle into our business.

OOoo~ I would love to host a trunk show with my girlfriends, it sounds like fun! So I understand that theWYLDshop has been involved in a social cause recently too... What was it all about?

G:
My business partner, Kara, has a huge heart and she's really involved especially when it comes to animals as she's got a rescue dog (you know who Tigger is) who is really part of WYLD's family, he's our mascot ;) So it was only natural for us to be doing something for animal related causes.

KB: *Gushes* I'm a big animal lover and I am all for giving them a voice. We had a small event with SPCA and Animal Lovers League to create awareness for the organisations, and had a mini adoption drive. In the near future, we hope to work with and continue to create more awareness for locally run charity organisations in Singapore.

Yes, I know Tigger! Hahaha! Ok, I like asking this question in my interviews: "What's your motto in life"... and how does that translate into your style?

G: Kara and I share the same motto of living WYLD and Free, and being whoever you wanna be which is also our company's motto. Being an entrepreneur now, I shuffle a lot from rocking a hobo look, as I'm pretty darn serious when I'm focused in my work, to looking half decent in minutes and attend fabulous events in Singatown.

KB: I have an eclectic wardrobe, I pretty much dress according to my mood each day (or whatever fits) I believe that being comfortable is so important and it really does have an impact on my confidence level.

I get that with your motto, which leads me to my next question... Who's your fashion inspiration?

KB: Riri (Rihanna) is someone in my eyes who Lives WYLD & Lives Free so she would have to be my fashion inspiration. She comes across as someone who is comfortable in her own skin and dresses to please herself..

G: My fashion inspo has gotta be VB (Victoria Beckham)... Need i say more'

Cool! It's interesting to see how your fashion inspiration really relates to both of your styles and ultimately translate through with your motto! Love it! So, I understand that theWYLDshop is a new start-up. What's your future plans/events for the business, if any?

G: Plans of expansion are definitely on the cards as we're getting more offers to open up stores in major malls in the city so stay tuned :)

KB: We are having a pool party at W Hotel on the 19th & 29th of October where we will be showcasing our exclusive range of swimwear! All of our events information are posted on our Facebook page.

Awesome! Ok, one final question to wrap things up and this is for all my aspiring entrepreneurs out there. What's one business advice you would give to someone starting out a new business?

G:
I'm very results orientated and I love challenging myself constantly. My two cents worth would be this quote that really sticks with me "No one remembers you for your thoughts, they'll remember you for your actions."

KB: Oh~ I have loads!! Have a plan, write everything down, do your research (i.e know your industry & your target audience), get a mentor, do a budget but most importantly believe in yourself and never lose sight of what motivated you to start the business in the first place.

Punked

Donned in theWYLDshop's fashion, G and I headed out of Clifford Centre in search for a new spot to do a quick OOTD "photoshoot". We were trying to incorporate "Clifford Centre" into the photos. I will be honest, it was awkward standing on the steps with the guy on the right and people walking by so I suggested taking the photos while I'm on the escalator. But it was going to be a challenge... Why?

Well, the escalator that I am on... it was going down rather than up. So what I had to do was to turn around and face up while G was going up the escalator on the other side, trying to get a good shot. It required precise timing and a few rounds up and down the escalators to get these photos.

I like doing things as organic as this rather than just posing at a spot. I think the dynamics of the actions required help to take my mind off how to position my limbs and how to exude a certain type of expression for the take.

I can tell you this fact, I was trying very hard not to laugh throughout the "shoot" at G’s reaction when she was trying to capture the photos in that short time span that we have on the escalator and secondly, from a guy who got confused.

Here’s what happened:

I am assuming that he uses these escalator frequently to know which one was for going down/up. So he walked to the escalator that was going down, but he was shocked thinking that he was about to get on an escalator going up (we all have moments like that) because I was facing up. We punked him! His reaction and expression were classic~ G was clueless to this but oh boy~ I was trying sooooo hard not to laugh and I could tell that he was a little embarrassed by the situation.

That being said,
we got a pretty good shot to show off the sophistication of this black lacy Manhanttan Dress!

Behind The Scene: theWyldshop First Fashion Show

If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have known that I have been busy with theWYLDshop's launch of their first boutique and their very first fashion show!

theWYLDshop, Singapore’s destination for everything Aussie Chic in Fashion, had their Debut Fashion Show at f.Club Singapore last Thursday, kicking off the F1 Singapore Grand Prix fever!

I had special privileges to go backstage to bring you this!

An hour prior to doors opening, the models got into their respective outfits and rehearsed their walk! Being at the observing end, this moment brought up memories of my modelling and pageant days when I had to walk in heels for hours just to get all of my steps right.

Rehearsals are essential to ensure that not only do the outfits look right with the right heels and accessories, but also the entire mood/vibe of the show is liven up by the models' walk and attitude.

I've got a short clip of Actress/Model Liv Lo during rehearsal on my IG, check it out if you haven't!

Let's move backstage where all the chaos unfolds! If you have seen Victoria Secret's Behind-The-Scene footage before, you would understand to a certain degree the craziness that take place before the show. Here's some of our mini craze~

Photos Of Individual Model's Look, Checked.
This wall is vitial, it allows both the model and dresser to be organised and to ensure that they put on the right stuff on for their walk. Changing time during show is super crazy~ This helps a lot to ensure order.

Inspirations Of Hair and Makeup, Checked.

Hairstylists From Blow+Bar Getting Models' Hair Done, Checked.

Oh! By the way, the plaits were really cool and it looks even better with Nellie!
I conclude that it is due to her hair colour and highlights~

Makeup Artists From Blow+Bar Getting Models' Makeup Done, Checked.

Models Chilling Out Before The Show and Selfie/Welfie Moments with Co-Founder Kara Bensley-Austin, Checked and Checked.

And 15 to 30 minutes before the show starts, all the models would be in their first outfit with makeup artists and hairstyles going around to do one final touch-up!

I love socialite Tamy Vo from KalaClub's Punked Up Do~

And that's all for Behind-The-Scene at theWYLDshop's First Fashion Show! Stay tuned for the next post on the show and outfits!

I will do another post on the show and outfits soon, just need to edit the photos because iphone is crappy in night mode!
