A few people have been asking me personally, whether the wings were bought or made and how, after watching my video:

So I have decided to share with you the insider's info of what goes on to create such beautiful wings!

It started out at Mother & Child Project outlet at Millenia Walk of a session of brainstorm on how to turn drawings into actual finished wings.

To withstand the weight of the feathers and to create the structure of the wings, long wires were cut and shaped by hands.

After which, a stocking/ stretchy cloth was measured, cut, sewn and stretched as a base for the feathers.

Long rows of feathers were pinned and hand-sewn onto the fabric.

Then, other design elements were either wired or hand-sewn on; followed by the support strap that are used to secure the wings onto ourselves.

All of the wings were created with its own uniqueness, some had designs that were hand-glued on individually, others had designs hand-sewn on, or hand-painted and even had feathers weaved and wired individually!

All in all, I would really like to thank all of the wonderful people behind the making of the wings for their hard work and dedication to creating these wings for our charity.

With the recent hype in the harmful ingredients present in our lipsticks, I decided to look for a natural solution and stumbled upon this all natural lip tint!

I  am a fan of tints because it last longer in Singapore's climate and it feels like having nothing on after application.

For the visual people, this is the video that I saw to do my very own beet root lip tint!

You may follow the steps that Sarah used in the video, I did a batch with her method and another with my own method and I find that it feels and taste better!

Plus it's less costly but the drawback is that it might not last as long.

So if you are interested in my method, here's what you will need:

1/4 of a Beet Root, peeled

A Double Boiler or A Bowl & A Pot

Tea Strainer or Cheesecloth

A Roll-on Applicator/ Container

Steps:

1) Dice your beet root to fine bits or put them in a blender

2) Set up your double boiler or simply place a bowl in a pot of water, take care to keep your flame small and prevent water from entering the bowl

3) Scoop the beet root into the bowl & let it heat up in the bowl for ard 8-10mins

4) Turn flame off and let it cool

5) Strain the liquid with a tea strainer or cheesecloth and try to squeeze whatever you can produce

6) Transfer it into a Roll-on applicator or a container of your liking

Here is the end result!

The awesome thing about using a tint is that colour intensity is buildable!~

So if you want a stronger look, just keep layering it up.

I use this on my lips and cheeks for a while now and I love it!

Oh, and to keep it lasting longer, I store it in the fridge:)

Do note that if it starts to smell funny and look brownish, it means that it has gone bad.

Handmade Movement is Singapore’s first and only large-scale indie craft fair. But it’s more than just a craft fair. It is envisioned to be a platform for local artisans to reach out to the community and encourage appreciation for unique items that are handmade with love and attention. Amidst good music, fabulously colourful decor and the lush greenery of Fort Canning, artisans display and sell their handmade products and original artwork as well as conduct workshops for both adults and kids.

 I made the best decision ever today to head over to Fort Canning for the fair, despite the rain, and it was totally awesome! I loved the indie vibe the place had it going and it reminded me of my times in Australia!

Just imagine raindrops, wet grass, the smell of nature with live band music and tons of awesome quirky stuff to see, touch and buy!

There were also workshops held for free for people to dibble dabble in a few DIYs and gain the know-hows from the Pro~ The only downside of it was that you have to register for it beforehand and the demand of workshops was so high that I originally didnt manage to get a slot for myself. However, due to the rain, a handful didnt turn up for the workshops and I managed to squeeze in for 2 sessions which made me really happy C:

The first workshop I took part in is the DIY Cupcake Decorating, hosted by Butter Studio, where we got to decorate, customise and eat our own cupcake! It was awesome!

The second workshop I attended is something close to my heart and it was hosted by Green Living, and it was on How to Detoxify Your Skincare. Topics like harmful ingredients used in our daily product, natural alternative and cleansing methods were touched on and I got to bring back my very own Rosemary Hair Tonic to use!

After the workshops, I headed to the Craft Tent and got myself a cleansing powder made naturally with oats and herbs (I will touch more on it in another post) and drained my time away looking at the merchandises and art!

I loved how each table was different from the other and how friendly everyone was, some even posed for my camera (even though it was just my iphone)~  The only sad thing about today was that I didn't have enough cash in my wallet...Especially this Dino!

But well~ at least the owner was super supportive and kind to let me hold it for a photo~ and that's it for my eventful Saturday!

With V~DAY approaching, I thought that it would be an ideal time to share with you readers on a handmade gift that I did. It is basically a craving of a person's name on a piece of chalk!

Materials needed:
1) Chalk
2) Needle
3) Toothpick, ruler (optional)
4) Flat paintbrush
5) Water
6) Other stuff like paper, tissues, paper towel (just in case)

Step 1

-Draw 2 horizontal line across and sketch the name onto the chalk, very lightly~ (seriously)

-Leave a gap before and after the name.

Step 2
-Scrape out the whole section of the gap, using the needle and toothpick. It should look something like that:

You can decide how deep you want it to be, but I like to make it to about 1/3 of the height first, so that i have more room to neaten it up later.

Remember: It is about making the name visible in the first few stages, so it doesn't have to be perfect at this stage.

Step 3

-Carve out all areas needed to form the alphabet, I find that it is best to use a needle for this step as it provides more control.

My tip is to give the area a little poke to loosen it up. Use the end of the needle (the part where threads go through) to help you. It is great for carving such spots.

It would look something like this:

Step 4

-Use the toothpick and rub away on the horizontal lines that you created in step 1, to create a gap around the name. Do the same for the other side.

It could get a little tricky, but be patient. Dont worry if your hands slip, just continue.

If it isnt straight and you like to be perfect, use a ruler to even it out. It should look like this:

Step 5

- Now, it is time to even and neaten things up. Do your best level the lines and define the alphabets.

It should look somewhat like that..

Step 6

-Run the chalk under water/ soak it in water for about 20 seconds.. the goal is to wash off the excess and to wet it.

- Brush off all the light lines/mistakes away with the brush. Brush horizontally and vertically.

It should be wet enough to blend the imprints away/ make it less noticeable.

Step 7

- Take the needle and start adding in details (breaking line between each alphabet; curves to letters; touch ups). The chalk should be kinda soft now, like a thick clay... so be careful with every action.

-Saw off any excess area, if needed. I find that it is easier to do so when it is softer.

Final step

-Leave it to dry and pack it however way you want.

Note: Dont despair if your chalk breaks... It takes a few try to figure out the right amount of pressure to use. It is also helpful to sketch out your design before craving on the chalk.
